Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Shelf collects and how it is used. We keep the surface small on purpose.
What we collect
Account data (email, display name, optional profile photo), your username, posts you add, likes, follow relationships, and notification preferences. We also store session cookies required to keep you signed in.
How we use it
We use this data to operate Shelf: authentication, showing your public profile, feed and follow features, in-app notifications, and transactional email (verification and password reset) when configured. We use privacy-friendly Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights to understand aggregate traffic and performance — not to build advertising profiles.
Third parties
Infrastructure may include Supabase (database and avatar storage), Vercel (hosting and analytics), Resend (email), Upstash (optional rate limiting), and Google (optional sign-in). Search for covers uses Apple iTunes, TMDB, Open Library, AniList, Wikipedia, and Steam — queries are sent to those APIs when you search.
Visibility
Public profiles and posts are visible on the web. You can change profile visibility in settings. Do not post information you are not comfortable sharing under your chosen visibility.
Your rights
You can update your display name, avatar, privacy, and notification preferences in Settings. You can download a copy of your account data from Settings → Account, and delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account. Deletion removes your profile, posts, likes, follows, and sessions.
Retention
We keep your data while your account is active. After you delete your account, associated content is removed from our primary database via cascading deletes. Backups and logs may retain residual copies for a limited period before they rotate out.
